| Modjo Conceiving new paths towards future music, the French duo Modjo continues with the major exposure of electronic sound creations coming from France. They mix fresh guitar samples with catchy rhythms, and add to it the simplicity of their lyrics, almost unforgettable verses to dance and listen to. Composed of Yann Destagnol and Romain Tranchart, the Modjo project appeared in 1998, when the two first met. Tranchart was unconditionally a fan of new sound experiences coming from the house music scene, influenced by bands like Daft Punk and artists like DJ Sneak. This eventually led him to record a single, "What You’re Gonna Do Babe," released on Vertigo Records in 1998, by the name of Funk Legacy. On the other hand, Destagnol preferred the sounds of pop and was inspired by more classic references like the Beach Boys or David Bowie. Following some experimental sessions, the two partners got the inspiration to create one of the major hits of summer 2000 in Europe, the single "Lady (Hear Me Tonight)." After conquering Europe, Modjo then had their breakthrough in the U.S. in February of 2001, when the title theme reached the top of the Billboard dance charts with remixes done by Danny Tenaglia and Harry Romero. — M.
